About Me

I am delighted that you are here to check out this blogsite.

This is something I really should have started six years ago. That was when the thought first entered my head.

What can I tell you about me?

My nameabout me is Sumudu, it means ‘smooth.’

‘Crazy-weird’ is my husband’s description of me. He thinks I live life without a plan!

He is probably correct!

All I know is that I  do what I need to do and get done what needs to be done, even if the doing part takes a few hours longer or maybe even a few Earth rotations around the sun. But I do achieve a goal of some sort – and I am sticking by that statement 🙂

I met my husband online when I turned 40, and we were married a year later. We share a common passion that bonds us together, and that is chemistry. We do not have children. Year after we were married I had an abdominal myomectomy, which is a surgical procedure to remove three large fibroids. This left me unable to have children. Maybe one day you’ll read that story here.

I am a vegetarian.

I chose vegetarianism after watching a documentary about meat production. The movie moved me.

It tugged at my heart-strings and made me cry!

It also grossed me out that I barfed out the meal I ate earlier clogging up the sink in my dorm room. So I decided to not eat meat anymore for as long as I am able to feed myself. I literally became a vegetarian overnight when I was 22.

Although I love writing, I am not a writer by profession. I am a lecturer by day, and a cook, a cleaner, a gardener, and a blogger in the evenings, weekends, and during those long vacation weeks (when I am not planning courses, and grading).

During my career as a teacher, I have learned a lot about myself as a person. Many people have influenced me over those years – teachers and students.  I have come to realize that every encounter we have in life with another human being is an opportunity for growth. They touch you in ways you can never imagine.

Teaching and being taught is my life!

I wasn’t always a teacher though – at one point in my life I was a  scientist.

I believe in continuous improvement and growth of the human mind, the brain and the spirit. We cannot and should not resist change. My philosophy of life is to do what you can in the time that you have.

I am generally a happy person regardless of the curve ball life threw at me. I guess we learn and grow from these things.

Purpose of this blogsite

This is a personal blogsite where all the posts are written and edited by me. Here I write my thoughts and learning on topics I consider to be important. I love gardening, and home improvement projects, as well as travelling and creative arts. So I will post a lot on these areas. I am fascinated by various lifestyle blogs, and health and beauty products. While I may write about these, I will not be giving any personal medical or any other health advice on these products. I am not qualified to do that.

The only advice I can give people is what I am qualified to give – that is on learning science or learning to teach science. But I probably won’t be addressing that too much here.

I am very much into spiritual growth learning from great teachers and philosophers. I am inspired by remarkable people. Their speeches, lives, and work are the foundation to much of what I know about life. So I blog about what I have learned from these people.

Affiliate programs

I have also  some contact with various affiliate networks. You may see these on each of my posts, and I may receive a small commission for a link or sale.

Hope you stick around ….

May you be well and happy.
